THANKSGIVING MASS

On Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00 PM, our parish communities of St. Peter and St. Dominic will celebrate a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Peter’s. We ask everyone to bring a non-perishable food item which will be accepted during the offertory for the Food Shelf of Rutland and Proctor. Please also bring some food item which will be used for your Thanksgiving meal. It will be blessed after Communion.

 ST. PETER FUEL RAFFLE

The St. Peter Parish Council will be holding a raffle to supplement the St. Peter Fuel Collection. This year we expect fuel to be twice as expensive as last year. The Fuel Collection does not raise enough to pay for fuel to heat the church. The Fuel Collection needs another source of funding. Raffle tickets are $20.00 each. The first drawing will be November 30 after the 11:00 AM Mass. We will be drawing: one $100.00 prize, two $50.00 prizes and one $25.00 prize. The next drawing will be the weekend of December 20-21. Winners need not be present. For tickets or information contact Sue Ahearn at 775-7398, Angie LaVictoire at 775-1256 or Joe Eno at 773-3111 (day) or 773-3665 evenings. Tickets will be sold at the back of the church after Mass throughout the month of November.

THANKSGIVING ECUMENICAL SERVICE will be held on Tuesday, November 25th. The Proctor community, led by clergy and laity from our three churches, will gather to give thanks for the life we share at 7:00 PM at the Union Church. There will be hymns and lessons, prayers and expressions of gratitude to God, as well as two opportunities to share some of the good things in our lives with others. A collection of non-perishable food will be given to the Pittsford, Florence and Proctor Food Shelf, and the money collection will go toward funding the Proctor Community Concern Council’s Christmas Voucher Program. Both of these outreach efforts are critical as we approach a winter in which the need of our neighbors has escalated dramatically. So come, lift your heart and voice in praise to God, and the bounty of your resources in service to others!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT MSJ:  We would like to extend an open invitation to any volunteer who would be willing to help with various tasks in our very busy Development Office. If you have some basic office and/or computer skills, or would like to help with such events as our annual Dance/Auction in January or our Restaurant Night in March, we would be most grateful for any and all help. Come and help with a very important mission – keeping an MSJ education affordable. Please call MSJ at 775-0151. We’ll keep you busy!

THANK YOU – On Saturday, November 15, the 8th Grade catechism class attended the Middle School Youth Rally in Barre, VT. The event was attended by 6th – 8th grade Catholics from all around Vermont. We enjoyed games, stories, song and worship, culminating with Mass celebrated by Bishop Matano. Thank you to our parishes for funding our trip to this great event.

Michael Knowles, 8th Grade Catechism Teacher

PROCTOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL – It is kindergarten round-up time and we are looking for all potential children for the 2009-2010 school year. Children need to be 5 by September 1st. Please call the office with student and parent information at 459-2225.

THANK YOU – The Community Cupboard would like to thank everyone who contributed to the CVPS Fill the Cupboard Challenge. Your donation, and those of the other organizations, will help stock the Cupboard shelves this fall. CVPS will be donating $5,000 representing 25 cents for each of the 20,000 food items collected, and an additional $500 in the name of the Vermont Country Store for collecting the most items this year. Thanks again.

CAPUCHIN FRANCISCAN VOCATION

There will be a discernment weekend offered for those men 18 to 40 who may feel a call to follow the Lord as a Capuchin Franciscan priest or brother on December 5, 6 & 7 in Good Shepherd Friary, New York City, with presentations encompassing the theme, “Francis, Crib and Conversion”. If anyone is interested please contact Brother Tim Jones, O.F.M. @1-212-567-1300 or brotimjones@yahoo.com.

MEMORIAL FLOWERS FOR CHRISTMAS

FOR ST. PETER – Envelopes are available at all the church entrances. For those not acquainted with the practice, an offering is made for the decoration of the church at Christmas in these envelopes and the names of those to be remembered (which you print clearly on the envelopes) are remembered in a special bulletin. Please drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at the Rectory Office before December 15. If you are a “shut in” and are unable to pick up an envelope, please call the Rectory during the week, and we will mail you one. Thank you.

FOR ST. DOMINIC – Your envelope packets contain a Christmas flower envelope in them. Please write clearly the names of those who are to be remembered so we do not make a mistake in the spelling of the names and drop your envelope in the offertory basket, mail it or drop it off at St. Peter Rectory before December 15.

Again this year, St. Peter Church will be having a “Giving Tree”. In the spirit of Christmas, those who wish may select a gift card from the baskets at the entrances of the Church. The cards have been made to reflect the specific needs of those families that we will be helping at Christmas. Here’s how it works:

  1. Take a gift card from the basket.
  2. Purchase the gift.
  3. Wrap the gift, put the gift card on it and bring it to Church.**

**If gift purchasing and wrapping are a problem, we will shop for the gifts and wrap them for you. If you would like us to do this, please take a gift card and then put your donation for that gift in an envelope, with the gift card and put it in the offertory basket. It is very important that the gift card be attached to the gift or the donation so that we know which family it goes to. Please try to bring the gift to Church as soon as possible. Deadline for the gifts to be here is December 15.

With Advent beginning, please take a few minutes a day, maybe five minutes, and use The Word Among Us to grow closer to the Lord before Christmas. Spending just five minutes a day reading The Word Among Us magazine will dramatically change your experience during Advent from one of commercialization to spiritual openness. Copies are provided by the parish and are located at church exits. Please pick one up for your family and start a new Christmas tradition!
