BISHOP’S FUND
The 2009 Bishop’s Fund
Campaign continues to gain momentum. It
is very important that every member of our parish communities make an effort to
participate in the Bishop’s Fund. St. Peter’s has already raised a total of $28,785
of their $37,925 goal – St. Dominic’s has raised a total of $6,825 of their
$10,295 goal. This is an extraordinary start
and we are grateful to all those who have shown their commitment to help
further the ministries and programs of the Bishop’s Fund.

MSJ NEWS
You are cordially invited to

a Reception and Dinner to be held at the Rutland Holiday Inn beginning at
My name is Adam DeBlasio. Currently, I am a Life Scout in Christ the
King Troop 120 working on my Eagle Scout Project to become an Eagle Scout. I am
a parishioner here at St. Peter’s Church and a sophomore at
My Eagle Scout Project that I would like to do is to cut down and stump
the three trees that are near the Shrine where the statues of Jesus, Joseph and
Mary are located. Then I will have topsoil brought in to level it off and I
will reseed the area. I will bring in cedars and plant them in back of the
statues too. Then I would want to have the statues, altar rail, and benches
cleaned and sealed. Also, I would like to fix the altar rail.
The reason why I want to do this project is because of the violent
windstorms we have been getting in the last few years. Since the tree limbs are
so big, during a future windstorm one of the limbs could break off and fall on
the statues, which would destroy them. Since they are Italian marble they are
very hard to fix because they are very expensive. Also, since the three trees
are pine trees, sap gets on the statues and gets them dirty. If I cleaned them
this year, in a few years they would not look like I cleaned them at all if the
trees were still there.
There are many memories that have to do with the Shrine. My dad told me
that St. Peter’s School used to ring the bell at lunchtime in the month of May
fifteen minutes before they had to go back in school and pray the Rosary in
front of the Shrine. As many of you that recall, who went to St. Peter’s
School, you did the same thing too. Also, I am a football player at MSJ and
after every Thursday or Friday practice before every game (depending on a
Friday or Saturday game) we pray in front of the Shrine. At home games we pray
at the Shrine just before we enter the field. This has been a long standing
tradition.
The way the Eagle Scout Project has to be done is through donations,
fundraising and volunteer workers. Next week I will be here asking for
donations at the Saturday night and Sunday morning Masses, and at the end of
them there will be people collecting donations at the doors. Hopefully, when I
come in to talk to you next week, I will have an estimate on how much it will
cost to do the project.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
