SOUPER BOWL – FEBRUARY 6 & 7

We are on a mission to fight hunger and poverty.

You can help.

More than 20 years ago on a Super Bowl Sunday, a single youth group was inspired by a simple prayer. They started the Souper Bowl of Caring, a youth-led movement that is now an international event. Since 1990, the Souper Bowl of Caring has raised more than 60 million for individual charities across the country. It is also turning our nation’s biggest weekend of football into its largest weekend of giving. Each year, tens of thousands of our nation’s youth put God’s love into action through the Souper Bowl of Caring.

You can help them feel the significance of caring for

others by dropping a dollar in a soup pot on

February 6 & 7 as you leave worship.

Your donation will go directly to the Open Door Mission, one of our local charities. With your help, more dollars will be raised, more lives will be changed, and more young people will experience the joy of serving Christ by serving others.

“Lord, as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.”

All are welcome. Come spend 15 minutes, 30 minutes or an hour. Come pray, sit, reflect and listen to Our Lord. You will not be sorry. If you have any questions, call 775-0151. Use the main entrance to MSJ. The dates for February are:  February 5, 12, 19 & 26.

WITHOUT WINTER THERE WOULD BE NO SPRING – You are invited to a reflection on winter led by Sr. Mary Harvey, SSJ on Tuesday, February 2 from 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM in the Chapel of St. Joseph Kervick Residence, 131 Convent Ave., Rutland. FUND RAISER FOR THE

COMMUNITY CUPBOARD

The Italian American Club on Grove St. is holding a spaghetti and meatball dinner for the benefit of the Community Cupboard on Friday, February 12. There will be a 5:30 and 7:00 PM seating. The cost will be $5.00 per person, plus a food or monetary donation to the Community Cupboard. Also coming up is Pack the Paramount on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 until 1:00 PM.

FOOD ASSISTANCE FOR VERMONT SENIORS

In this challenging economy, nutritious food and extra food money is available for Seniors and retired folks who qualify. The Commodity Supplemental Food Program and Three Squares Vermont are two important food benefits for people over the age of 60. To learn more about these programs and how to apply, call the Senior HelpLine 1-800-642-5119 or 786-5991.

The Community Cupboard would like to thank you for your fourth quarter contribution of 123 food items. Your year to date total is 1,250 food items. We are dependent on charitable contributors like you. Without continued support from our community, churches, businesses, schools and organizations, we would not be able to provide much needed food assistance to 13,000 people annually.

ST. PETER FUEL RAFFLE

The St. Peter Parish Council will conduct a raffle again this year to supplement the St. Peter Fuel Collection. The Fuel Collection does not raise enough to pay fuel expenses. The Parish needs another source of funding to heat our church. Raffle tickets are $20.00 each. There will be prize drawings on February 28 and March 28 with a grand prize drawing on May 1. We will draw one $200.00 prize and two $50.00 prizes on February 28 and March 28. The grand prize drawing, with dinner, will be Saturday, May 1 at 6:30 PM. We will draw two $500.00 winners and one $250.00 winner. Winners need not be present. Parish Council members will be selling tickets after Mass throughout the raffle. For tickets or information contact:  Sue Ahearn 775-7398, Angie LaVictoire 775-1256, or Joe Eno 773-3111 (day) or 773-3665 (evenings).
