People were able to catch up with friends they hadn’t seen in a while and all seemed to have a good time. Keep watching the bulletin for upcoming events.

LETTER FROM BISHOP MATANO

 Bishop Matano

Dear Parishioners:

On January 13, 2010, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake devastated the Caribbean country of Haiti, killing thousands and destroying countless homes and buildings. His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, made an appeal to the world on behalf of Haitians, calling for prayer, solidarity and generosity to aid the victims of the catastrophe.

In response to this tragedy, I am encouraging all parishes in the Diocese of Burlington to include the Haitian nation in their general intercessions at Holy Mass this weekend and to conduct a special collection so that the Diocese of Burlington may answer our Holy Father’s call “to fulfill the immediate needs of the population.”

St. Peter/St. Dominic parishes will be taking up the collection for the Haitians on the weekend of January 30/31, 2010. These funds will be used to support the efforts of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, as they respond to the immediate emergency needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter and medical care, as well as to the long term need to rebuild after the widespread destruction, and to the pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church in Haiti.

In closing, let us be mindful that we are all one family in the Lord and must share in helping our suffering sisters and brothers. May the Good Shepherd be the strength and support of so many who mourn the loss of their loved ones.

Thanking you for your kind attention in this regard, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Salvatore R. Matano

The Most Reverend Salvatore R. Matano

Bishop of Burlington
