Our Doctor

Dr. Francis D'Auria assumed the practice of Dr. Battista Chiolino in 1977.  Since that time, he has advanced the dental practice into the information and technology age with the latest equipment, materials and techniques aimed at making your dental visit as comfortable as possible.

Dr. D'Auria graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey with a degree in biology.  He continued his education entering Fairleigh Dickinson University, School of Dentistry in Hackensack, New Jersey. 

Upon receiving his D.M.D. (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree in 1974, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy.  As a Naval Dental Officer serving at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, in Bremerton, Washington, Dr. D'Auria helped maintain the dental health of active duty and retired Navy personnel.  In 1975, he was appointed to serve the dental needs of personnel aboard the U.S.S. Constellation (CV-64)

Upon release from active duty, he and his wife Colleen searched for a private practice opportunity.   That search resulted in Dr. and Mrs. (Colleen) D'Auria moving to Vermont in early 1977.

Since that time, Dr. D'Auria has been involved in numerous community and professional activities. He is past president of the Rutland County Dental Society, is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry

The Academy of General Dentistry awards the honor of Master upon completion of a rigorous program of 1100 continuing education hours, 400 of which must be hands-on courses in 17 different areas of study.  Dr. D'Auria is only the second Vermont dentist to be awarded this honor and joins a very select group of dentists nationwide who have demonstrated a consistent and comprehensive approach to enhancing their skills for the betterment of their patients.

The Academy of General Dentistry also awards the those Masters who have demonstrated considerable further intense study as well as service to the dental community and the general community the LLSR. The Life Long Learning and Service Recognition was awarded to Dr. D'Auria in 2017 at the Academy's Annual Scientific Session. He is the first and only dentist in Vermont to have been awarded this distinctive nationally recognized honor.

Dr. D'Auria is also a member of the Vermont State Dental Society and the American Dental Association and past-president of the New England Masters Study Club.  This group of highly trained dentists meets twice a year with some of the best clinical dentists available for advance training.

Dr. D'Auria has been trained and certified in the latest technologies including Cerec, the highly aesthetic single visit crown treatment option and Perio Protect, the latest proven comfortable technology to eliminate the harmful biofilms of periodontal disease.

Dr. D'Auria is an Extra Class Amateur Radio operator with the call-sign W1AD.  He first became licensed in the Amateur Radio Service in 1978.  He is a founding member of the Green Mountain Wireless Society and a member of the American Radio Relay League.   He is a member of RACES and ARES, organizations which provide emergency communications during disaster situations.   He teaches an annual introductory course for persons interested in obtaining a license.  He also is certified to administer amateur radio FCC licensing exams . 

Dr. D'Auria is the organist and Director of Music at Saint Peter Church in Rutland.  He and his wife, Colleen, live in Rutland Town.
